Saturday, June 27, marked the official opening of the new channel to Frenchman’s Bay.
On hand were dignitaries from municipal, provincial and federal governments, as well as the Greater Toronto Conservation authority. Local businesses and organizations were also represented.
Despite the cool, wet conditions, over a hundred people turned out for the festivities, which included remarks from various officials, the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, and live music. A scheduled sailpast by Frenchman’s Bay boaters was abandoned due to the wet, blustery weather.
Our job now, as members of the boating community of Frenchman’s Bay, is to get the word out, that the Bay is ready to receive visitors! There is a vibrant Yacht Club on the west side of the Bay, appropriately Frenchman’s Bay Yacht Club, ready to receive guests, and offering reciprocal privileges with most other clubs on the lake. Frenchman’s Bay Marina and Fairport Yacht Club inhabit the eastern side, and of course, tucked into the south east corner is our own facility, Swans Marina, boasting new docks, a restaurant on site [the Waterfront Bistro], and a host of other amenities within walking distance.
